Step 2
Adding Key Signatures, Time Signatures, and Notes

Now that we have an score we need to put some music in it.

Note: While MuseScore can produce non metered music and Mensurstich (see Early Music Features) for chant notation and neumes, one is better off using something like Gregorio (click banner image below to go to the gregorio site.)

1. Click on the Palettes tab in the upper left

2. Click on the arrow next to Time signatures, then drag the time signature you want to the first measure.

3. Repeat the process with the Key signatures palette.

4. Click inside the measure in which you wish to begin entering notes.

5. Click the pencil icon or press N on the keyboard to start note entry.  Then click on a note duration or type a number (7=whole note, 6 = half note , etc.) to set a duration. Click the dotted quarter note icon or press . to add a dot. Clicking the quarter rest icon toggles between notes and rests.

6. Click In the measure or type a letter (A-G) to add a note. Notes will be added in the key.

7. Press the up or down arrow to raise or lower a note by a 1/2 step.  Type Ctrl - up arrpow or Ctrl - down arrow to transpose the note up or down an octave,
